Just to be clear

Bill Donohue — of the Catholic League — is arguing that Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope) could not take any Church action against Fr. Murphy for raping molesting of 200 children in the 50’s-60’s due to a statute of limitations. This is the same Church which condemned Galileo for heresy in 1633, and forced him to recant the notion of a heliocentric solar system under threat of torture¹. It wasn’t until 1820 that the Church reconsidered it’s conviction of Galileo, and not until 1992 until it, apparently, exonerated him. So the statue of limitations for the ‘timeless’ Mother Church in a matter of astronomic fact is 299 year, but in the case of a child molesting priest the Church’s hands are apparently tied after a mere 30 years.

¹ Given the accepted efficacy of torture today to produce truthful results, we all should begin to accecpt the fact that we live in a geocentric solar system. After all, Galileo simply couldn’t lie under the threat of water boarding.
