Daily Kos & Rove
dKos has another thread implicating Rove in the Plame affair: Daily Kos: TIME: Rove , Powell, Others Learned About Plame from WITHIN the Administration.
I really like dKos, and have been reading it for a few years. Though I often disagree with many of the writings I find there, I am often forced to re-think my own views. One of the recent rants at the site has been over Karl Roves’ involvement in the leaking of the CIA status of Joe Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame - I don’t really know of a good synopsis of the whole thing, so just google it if your out of the loop.
Anyway, there is this belief among lefty bloggers that this whole thing is going to bring Karl Rove, president Bush’s mentor, down. I, personally, think their nuts.
If Karl Rove, arguably one of the most powerful men in Washington, walked on to the US Senate floor, pulled a gun , and shot Senator Dick Durbin in the head live on CSPAN, he would probably not even be investigated. Within twenty four hours of the event Fox news would be arguing that Rove, as a southern gentleman, had no choice but to kill Durbin as a matter of honor. Media commentators would compare Rove to Aaron Burr. They would claim that Burr was a Democrat and wasn’t prosecuted, thus any prosecution of Rove would partisan politics. Meanwhile, we would see endless repetitions on TV of Durbin suggesting American troops engaged in horrific behavior towards US prisoners. This would serve as evidence that Durbin had impugned the integrity of the Bush administration, and thus the nation. Finally, it would be decided that Durbin’s words forced Rove to act violently, and the entire event was the fault of the liberal establishment.
You may think I am kidding, but the fact is that this is a more then plausible scenario in today’s America. The people who rant against moral relativism find relativist excuses for every depraved act committed by their friends and colleagues.
